Phil Lucas was born in Twickenham, West London, in 1970 and has been writing poems and stories for as long as he can remember. After attending university in Canterbury, where he studied political theory and philosophy, Phil immersed himself in the London poetry circuit where he became a regular performer with his mix of light-hearted and comedy poems. His readings took him across the UK and sometimes to Europe, where his attempts to translate his poems into the native tongue of his audience generally got more laughs than the jokes in the poems.
As a writer, Phil’s work has been published in a number of books and magazines. In 1996 he was winner of The Arrival Press London Poetry Competition with his poem ‘London’s Lost Love’.
Phil moved away from the performance poetry circuit in the late 90s and started to concentrate purely on writing. He continued to see his poems and stories published in print and online and also took his work into schools and colleges where he hosted classes on poetry writing.
In 2005 Phil moved to Cornwall to devote himself to writing full-time. It was here that he completed his first poetry collection (Poems From the Seashore) and wrote his first novel (Seaside Tales From Asper St Jasper). Phil was subsequently signed by Palores Publications, who released Poems from the Seashore in 2006.
In 2007 Phil temporarily moved back to West London where he completed his second poetry collection ‘The Silence of the Suburbs, The Call of the Sea’ (also published by Palores) and promoted the release of his novel (published by YourPod Ltd). It was during this time that he made plans to return to live by the seashore again.
Those plans came to fruition in 2008 when Phil moved to Brighton on England’s south coast. On February 1st 2012 Phil released his third poetry collection ‘The Relentless Nature of Dust’. This marks a hat-trick of releases from Phil through Palores Publications.
He is currently busy writing his next poetry book, 'Eating a Sausage Roll on the Boulevard of the Lost' - due for publication in 2013.
