The Relentless Nature of Dust is Phil Lucas’s third poetry collection. I especially enjoyed Sitting Opposite a Young Man on the Brighton to London Train (“Gosh, you must think me a right freak or weirdo that I catch your eye.”), Altruism as the Basis of Evil (an overheard conversation with a wonderful couple of puchlines) and Icons (another great punchline). Recommended.

Been going through your book. Your poems conjure many emotions but the overriding one at the moment is relief that you can actually write. This removes the hellish prospect of me meeting you at some future point and having to say, with hollow eyes, 'yeah, it was really good'. I honestly think you've got some great stuff in this collection - I particularly like Man Nearing the End Watching Birds and Café Nero.
Email from a best-selling author who I shall not name. But he's good, damn good.
I enjoyed your book a lot - in fact, so much that I felt compelled to read several of the poems to my non-poetry-inclined husband. Next I'll persuade him to read the whole thing so he can enjoy your observant accounts of life and people in full.
A lovely email from a very valued reader.
