The Silence of the Suburbs, The Call of the Sea

some poems from the book

The title for this second book of Phil’s poetry comes from the author leaving Cornwall and returning to his childhood home of Twickenham, West London. Taking cues from his first highly acclaimed Palores collection (Poems From the Seashore) Phil continues to be seduced by the ocean, but now, the palate is mixed with wily and sometimes fierce observations from life in suburbia. As Phil comments,
“This collection both opens up and adds to the themes explored in my first book. It’s fair to say that some of the black has now been covered with brighter hues, and as a writer, maybe I’ve travelled on the train that little bit more, stopping to bask at previously unexplored stations.”
